Routine well-child visits are the best way to ensure optimal health for your child and detect problems before they become serious.

Which well-child services are available?

Some of the many well-child services available at Favia Primary Care include:

  • Sports exams
  • Illness and disease screening
  • Vaccinations
  • Health education
  • Wellness exams
  • Growth and development evaluations
  • Lab work and other diagnostic testing

If your child needs care from a specialist, Favia Primary Care providers refer them to highly qualified medical professionals.

What should I expect during well-child visits?

When you and your child arrive at Favia Primary Care for well-child visits, friendly providers often complete the following:

Vital signs check

During vital sign checks, your family medicine specialist weighs your child, assesses their height and body mass index (BMI), checks head circumference in babies, and evaluates their pulse, blood pressure, temperature, or other vital signs.

Medical history review

During the medical history review portion of a well-child visit, your family medicine provider asks about your child’s medical history, family history of disease, medications they may take, and symptoms they might have.

They ask about your child’s developmental milestones and lifestyle, including eating, exercise, and sleep habits, as well as social and emotional tendencies.

Physical exam

During a physical exam, your child’s provider assesses their breathing, eyes, ears, throat, heartbeat, abdomen, reflexes, and more. They may also evaluate their vision and hearing.

Diagnostic tests

If your child is at risk of an illness, injury, or disease, or has any symptoms of one, their provider could recommend diagnostic tests. Examples include urine tests, blood tests, cardiac testing, or other diagnostic tests when appropriate.

Treatment as needed

Favia Primary Care offers preventive vaccinations and treatments if your child needs them. Examples include prescription medications, inhalers, injections, wound care, injury care, and other treatments for common conditions many children face.

When should I schedule well-child visits?

As a rule, schedule well-child exams every year for kids age three and older and more often for babies. Book appointments at Favia Primary Care if you have concerns or questions about your child’s health or if they become ill or injured.
